  • Chaco Canyon (About 157 miles northwest of Albuquerque)
    A national park that hosts massive buildings of the ancestral Pueblo peoples, built between 850 and 1250 A.D. Chaco offers guided tours, hiking & biking trails, evening campfire talks, and night sky programs.
  • Kasha-Katuwe Tent Rocks National Monument (About 54 miles northwest of Albuquerque)
    A remarkable outdoor laboratory, offering an opportunity to observe, study, and experience the geologic processes that shape natural landscapes. The cone-shaped tent rock formations are the products of volcanic eruptions that occurred 6 to 7 million years ago and left pumice, ash, and tuff deposits over 1,000 feet thick.
